Just in time for Mother's Day, the statue of the Immigrant Mother was placed in the Croatian Cultural Garden. The Immigrant Mother sculpture was created by the late Joseph Turkaly. She represents the thousands of mothers who came to America seeking freedom and a better life for their families. Many came as refugees after wars in their homeland. Mrs Julia Turkaly, the sculptor's wife, told us that when she was fleeing Hungary in 1956 she saw a young mother carrying a baby and that she thinks of her every time she see the statue.

Top Ten ways to know you are living in 2012

You know you are living in 2012 when:

  1. You accidentally enter your PIN on the microwave.
  2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
  3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of three.
  4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
  5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
  6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
  7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen
  8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't even have the first 40 or 50 (or 60 or... ) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it
  9. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee
  10. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. :-)

Anthony and the Magic Picture Frame
By Michael S. Class

On the surface, this is a book about a 12 year old boy named Anthony who travels to the past by stepping through the frame of a magic picture frame in his bedroom.

Charles Lindbergh with Anthony

Charles Lindbergh 'with' Anthony

He meets with great people and at great events in US history - similar to how Forrest Gump "met" with John F. Kennedy, John Lennon and others in the movie. But it's much more than that.

New look for ClevelandSeniors.Com

We heard you! We are responding to your feedback (thanks!) and redesigning ClevelandSeniors.Com. Nothing too major but we are making it easier to find things, bigger pages and photos, more current items and so on.

There are some new dedicated sections too like one for Veterans & Military, Police & Fire and Patriotic News.

Please excuse any temporary glitches that might occur as we migrate to the new design.
